Man who killed wife in 2011 to be sentenced in DC

The man who was convicted of murdering his socialite wife is scheduled for sentencing Wednesday after he killed her in 2011. Albrecht Muth, 49, will be sentenced Wednesday and prosecutors are asking that he spend life in prison. Muth pretend he was an Iraqi army general boasting of political and diplomatic connections and was convicted in January of killing his wife, Viola Drath, 91. Drath was a German writer and socialite and her body was found in the couple’s new home in Washington’s Georgetown neighborhood in August 2011. According to Muth, his wife had fallen. However, the medical examiner’s office concluded her death as a homicide. Later, a jury discovered that Drath’s beating and strangulation death was specifically heinous and cruel.
