Home of DC Councilmember searched by FBI, IRS

FBI and IRS agents on Friday searched the home of DC Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. Thomas, a Democrat representing Ward 5, has been accused of spending more than $300,000 of city funds for personal use. Thomas has agreed to repay the money but did not acknowledge wrongdoing. He has remained in office despite calls to resign.

Agents did not make any arrests Friday, though they did take two vehicles from the premises, a Chevrolet Tahoe and a motorcycle. Authorities also removed several bags and boxes of items. Thomas’ attorney, Karl Racine, said, “From Day One, we’ve cooperated with the government’s investigation of this matter. We’ll continue to do that. At the conclusion of the matter, we sincerely believe that there’ll be no finding of any criminal violations.”
