Documents of DC attorney general sought out by Feds

According to a set of federal prosecutors, the District of Columbia attorney general’s office has refused to hand over documents vital to an ongoing investigation.

Federal prosecutors are attempting to delve into matters of corruption within D.C.’s politics, and U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen said Wednesday that “the district’s withholding of relevant documents is currently preventing federal investigators from fully understanding actions taken by district officials.”

Attorney General Irvin Nathan revealed that the documents in question pertain to a settlement of $7.5 million with Jeffrey Thompson and are under the protection of attorney-client privilege.

Thompson is a former holder of the district’s Medicaid contract and has not been charged with any criminal activity.
