The Washington National Opera announced plans Thursday to present Rossini’s “Cinderella” at Nationals Park on May 16. The opera will be performed in Italian with English subtitles. Rossini’s version of the classic fairy tale centers on a girl named Angelina who dreams of escaping her impoverished stepfather’s castle. When a prince announces his attentions to choose a wife at a ball, she escapes the control of her stepsisters. This is the seventh year the company has offered “Opera in the Outfield” at the ball park. The event is free and usually draws an audience of thousands each year. This particular production has also been performed in Houston, Seattle and Barcelona.
