Virginia may play host to an NBA or NHL team as early as 2013, according to economic studies by the Virginia Beach Development Authority. The new franchise would be centered around Virginia Beach, and contingent on a new stadium.
Although no specifics have been released, team relocation is under consideration. The effort would include a proposed $350 million arena that has not yet been finalized by the city. There is an expected economic boost in areas around the suggested stadium, but numbers remain hard to come by. The region, however, is one of Virginia’s largest communities, and could bode well for regional sports.
