Arlington County is cracking down on nighttime noise. The county board has voted unanimously to pass new legislation that will carry much larger fines for violators. Prior to the new ordinance, fines for noise violations were $25; under the new ordinance, violators will face fines ranging from a minimum of $100 and a maximum of $2,500. Under the new regulations, violations will include noise created by idling commercial vehicles, lawn and garden equipment, animals, and any outside nighttime gatherings of 4 or more people that can be heard inside a home between 12 and 9 a.m. The new legislation will go into effect July 1.
