Attorney files lawsuit to get Gingrich on Va. Ballot

Virginia voting laws had declared former House Speaker Newt Gingrich ineligible to appear on the state’s primary ballot, but a new suit seeks to overturn that. A Virginia attorney and tea party activist has filed a lawsuit to have Gingrich placed on the March 6 ballot. Jonathon Moseley of Reston, Va., argues that Gingrich met the 10,000 signature requirement, but that many were improperly excluded.

Of the Republican candidates, only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul were found eligible. Rick Perry’s campaign has challenged his exclusion in court. In response to Moseley’s suit, a Gingrich spokesman said the campaign had not yet decided how to proceed. Gingrich believes his exclusion may have been the result of a campaign worker committing fraud by turning in false signatures.
