In Pulaski County, four people were sickened by an unidentified illness and have been released from the hospital. According to the Virginia Department of Health, the patients were discharged from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Two other people died Friday from the illness and the department has not identified any of the victims. An investigation is underway, calling this an “isolated illness.” No new cases have been reported and the public is not at risk, however the illness could be Hantavirus, which is a rodent borne illness. People infected with Hantavirus usually have flu-like symptoms including fever, shortness of breath, chills, and muscle and body aches.
