Andy Pettitte to retire after 2013 season

Andy Pettitte, a Yankees pitcher who has been in the major league for 18 years, announced his retirement after the 2013 season. There was some suspicion as to whether he really meant it this time, since he tried to retire once before in 2010. At that time, he spoke to Jack Curry of YES Network saying: “I retired after one of my better years. I felt like I was at the point where I just kind of knew what I was doing mechanically out there on the mound and stuff like that. But I retired to go home and be with my family, and that’s why I retired.” But the retirement didn’t last long, and in 2012, Pettitte returned to pitch for the Bronx Bombers.

Pettitte has pitched for the Yankees for all but three seasons, and he recorded his 2,000th strikeout with the Yankees just recently. He is also 10-10 with 117 strikeouts, and has an ERA of 3.93 for the season.
