Good news and bad news for Apple on debut of iPhone 5S and 5C

All over the country, crowds of people stood in line to get their hands on Apple’s newest iPhone. There were two new models being released; the 5S, which is made of glass and aluminum and costs $199 with a contract, and then there’s the 5C, a cheaper model made of plastic that costs $99 with a contract.

However, despite the lower cost and fun colors that come with the 5C, it has so far lacked popularity among Apple fans. CNN interviewed many of the hundreds of people waiting in line at the Apple store in New York City, and determined that almost everyone was “there to buy the iPhone 5S.”  Some people have also balked at the 5C, saying, as one 17-year-old in London put it, “the 5C stands for 5 cheap.” Apple was hoping that the cheaper iPhone, which costs much less to produce as well, would be popular enough to increase the company’s profit margins.

The 5S has definitely stolen the 5C’s thunder though, and with cool new silver and gold colors, the 5S has a certain “shine” factor that is lacking in its plastic substitute.
