As Tropical Storm Isaac bears down on New Orleans and the Golf Coast, President Barack Obama hits the campaign trail determined to complete a two-day college tour meant to energize younger voters and steal some of the spotlight from the Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida.

According to officials at the Obama campaign headquarters in Chicago, they are closely monitoring the storm, but will proceed with the scheduled rallies at Iowa State University in Ames on Tuesday afternoon, and Colorado State University in Ft. Collins on Tuesday evening. “The President and his team will continue to monitor the storm and he will receive briefings throughout the day,” an Obama campaign official told ABC News. “There are no scheduling updates at this time.” President Obama also has an event planned on Wednesday near the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
