The Obama campaign beat out Romney in campaign funds for the month of August, raising nearly 114 million to Romney’s 111 million. This is the first time in 4 months that Obama has raised more campaign funds than Romney. Obama’s campaign spokesman said in a statement “The key to fighting back against the special interests writing limitless checks to support Mitt Romney is growing our donor base, and we did that substantially in the month of August.”

Despite raising more money than Romney for August, it is the third consecutive month Romney has raised over 100 million in funds. Comparatively, Obama raised 74 million in the month of July. “Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are offering bold solutions to our country’s problems. That is why we are seeing such tremendous support from donors across the country,” Romney’s finance chairman Spencer Zwick and Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said in a joint statement.
