Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City has stated he plans to vote for Barack Obama because of the President’s positions on climate change, abortion and marriage equality. In an op-ed written by the Mayor in Bloomberg View, the Mayor also added that the impact of Tropical Storm Sandy brought the “stakes of Tuesday’s presidential election into sharp relief.”

“One sees climate change as an urgent problem that threatens our planet.” said the Mayor, “one does not. We need leadership from the White House—and over the past four years, President Barack Obama has taken major steps to reduce our carbon consumption, including setting higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars and trucks.” The Mayor also said Romney has in the past also demonstrated a strong record of addressing the problem of climate change, but has since then changed his positions on the issue. Mayor Bloomberg transitioned to a Republican from a Democrat in 2001 but has been unaffiliated with any party since 2007.
