John Edwards trial delayed due to serious heart condition

Former presidential candidate John Edwards is reported to have a serious heart condition. Edwards was scheduled for an upcoming court appearance that has already been prolonged twice. In the case, he is accused of concealing nearly $1 million in checks and cash from wealthy donors, which he reportedly used to conceal his pregnant mistress during his 2008 presidential run.

Judge Catherine Eagles said the two-time presidential candidate had “three episodes” and says that if his illness is left untreated, it could be life-threatening. Edwards’ procedure will be performed in February. The doctor suggested Edwards not drive or travel because it will take several days to recover. Eagles said, “Ordinarily, I would try to manage something like this. But clearly there are some limitations on Mr. Edwards due to real and serious health issues.” March 26 is the earliest date for a possible trial.
