John Edwards requests trial delay in light of illness

0

Former presidential candidate John Edwards, who faces a criminal trial over a misuse of campaign finances, says he has been diagnosed with a medical condition that would make his attendance in court difficult. Edwards’ lawyers requested the court date, currently set for Jan. 30, be delayed at least two months. Edwards’ illness was not disclosed.

Prosecutors filed a separate motion to oppose the request for more time. The court date was delayed once already for Edwards to attend his daughter’s wedding and have more time to prepare his defense. Edwards will be tried on six felony and misdemeanor counts for $1 million of donor money used to hide his pregnant mistress during his White House Bid.
