Series of earthquakes rock New Zealand

0

The New Zealand city of Christchurch was struck by a series of earthquakes and aftershocks Friday, which caused damage and injured at least two people. The region is still recovering from a powerful quake in February. The Friday tremors resulted in the Christchurch airport closing. The initial quake was 5.8-magnitude, with a 5.3-magnitude tremor following several minutes later.

And hour and a half after shakes had subsided, a 5.9-magnitude quake struck the region. The area is still undergoing construction from the last earthquake that hit in February, which killed more than 180 people. Many buildings still have scaffolding on them.
