U.S. Highway 395 will remain closed on Friday, due to a fire that started around noon on Thursday in Reno, Nevada. Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez reported that the fire’s progression was stopped by firefighters, but 3,700 acres of land and 800 homes were destroyed in its path.

2,000 people remain evacuated on Friday morning, including the students of Galena High School where Vice President Joe Biden had given a speech. Biden was talking with the students about college costs on Thursday before his speech was interrupted. “They have just told me if I don’t let you guys get out of here relatively soon they’re going to make you get out of here,” Biden told the students. This is the second wildfire the citizens of Reno have suffered in two short months. November’s wildfire caused the evacuation of 10,000 people.
