Paine College declared safe

According to school officials, it is now safe for Paine College students to resume attending class. The small, liberal arts college, located in Augusta, Georgia, experienced two shootings within two days. The first shooting took place on Sunday, when a shot was fired through a dorm wall; the flying debris resulted in one student injury, and the shooter is not believed to be a student. The second shooting took place Monday on the third floor of an administration building; a student was shot in the head and was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Following the shooting, Paine College was placed on a five hour lockdown while police and school authorities searched dorm rooms. One arrest has been made and charges against the arrested student are pending.
