Allegedly based out of a small village in northeast Nigeria, near the border of Cameroon, the terrorist group Boko Haram has kidnapped over 200 young girls since April 14, 2014. Boko Haram, when translated, means “Western education is a sin,” and the group claims that it aims to enforce a more strict Sharia law across Nigeria. Less than one month ago armed members of Boko Haram overthrew security personnel at an all-girls school in Chibok, and forced the over 200 girls from their beds and into the backs of trucks before disappearing into the forest. In response, U.S. officials have called for a joint coordination cell to help aide in the recovery of the missing girls. The cell will be established at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. President Barack Obama told reporters “We’re going to do everything we can to provide assistance to them.”
