Occupy protesters show solidarity for Iraq war vet

Occupy protesters in Oakland were wary following Tuesday’s confrontation with police, which left 24-year-old Iraq war veteran Scott Olsen in critical condition after he was struck in the head by a police projectile. Police Chief Howard Johnson said that Olson’s injury would be investigated thoroughly, but demonstrators were still concerned about the circumstances leading to his fractured skull. Some protesters expressed worry that demonstrators in other cities might soon face police in riot gear.

In New York City, where the Occupy Wall Street movement originated, protesters marched toward City Hall to show their support for the Oakland protesters and for Scott Olsen. Hundreds of people packed the streets near Manhattan’s Union Square Wednesday.
