Perry may skip future presidential debates

Texas Gov. Rick Perry may pass on future debates, arguing that the election cycle has too many. Perry’s spokesman, Ray Sullivan, said that time could be used with voters instead of with his Republican opponents on stage. Perry’s poll numbers have suffered from a number of poor debate performances, and Perry recently described them as “a mistake.” “It’s pretty hard to be able to sit and lay out your ideas and your concepts with a one-minute response,” Perry said.

Sullivan said of Perry’s upcoming debate participation, “we’re taking each of these as they come, examining the schedule and examining the opportunities and the opportunity costs.” He said Perry needs to focus on key states including Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and Nevada.
