Police in riot gear moved into McKeldin Square Tuesday morning to remove Occupy protesters that had been camped there since Oct. 4. There was no resistance from the people at the site, according to City police spokesman Anthony Gugliemi. “The whole event was orchestrated well, which speaks to our relationship with Occupy,” Guglielmi said. “Everything was done very peacefully.”
There were 30 people camped in the plaza at the time. 23 were taken to a city shelter and no arrests were made. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake extended her sympathies to the Occupy message, but added that the public area had to be respected.
