MD Prepares for Vote on Same-Sex Marriage Bill

0

When Maryland voters head to the voting booth on November 6th, 2012 they will be deciding whether or not to legalize same-sex marriage in their state. Gov. Martin O’Malley has come out in support of the bill that would become effective January 1st, 2013 and advocates both for and against same-sex marriage have organized petitions and rallies throughout the state. The proposed bill will allow same-sex couples to marry in Maryland, but also provides protection for religious leaders and institutions who oppose the idea from having to perform marriage ceremonies.

Senator Madaleno is among those scheduled to speak in an upcoming event in support of same-sex marriage that is to be held at the University of Maryland in College Park before voting day.
