Md. man scammed pay phones for $4M

0

Nicolaos Kantartzis, a Maryland businessman, pleaded guilty on Monday to rigging pay phones he owned to automatically call toll-free numbers. Calls of that nature cost nothing for legitimate users, but the owner of the toll-free number must pay the pay phone owner. Using such a scheme, Kantartzis was able to accrue $4 million over six years, with over 8 million fake calls.

Kantartzis has already paid back the cost of the fraud.
