Va. businesses get exposure boost with Google’s help

Google honored its small business beginnings on Tuesday at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, where it helped small business owners set up their own websites. For some business owners, it was about helping people without the technical know-how to gain a method of exposure beyond simple word-of-mouth. For business owners already with websites, Google helped make them more professional-looking, as well as gave advice on networking, to ensure more hits.

In Virginia, 44 percent of small businesses do not have a website. That number is at 63 percent nationwide. Governor Bob McDonnell says that must change if the state is to create jobs.
