Larry Deffenbaugh, who faked his death by jumping into the Chesapeake Bay, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison. Deffenbaugh was reported missing in May 2009, two days after he was to be sentenced for probation violation. Deffenbaugh had originally been convicted of bilking more than 500 people out of cemetery services.

Deffenbaugh faked his death by going out with his brother on the water. He pretended to fall overboard, and then swam to safety. Deffenbaugh has been charged with conspiracy and communicating a false distress signal.
