Police believe they have found the remains of 11-year-old William McQuain, who was last seen two weeks ago. The body was discovered in a wooded area off Route 121 near Route 355 in the Clarksburg area. Just six days earlier William’s mother, Jane McQuain, 51, was found killed. Curtis Lopez, Jane’s estranged husband, has been charged with her murder and is the prime suspect in William’s death.
Authorities and members of the community were devastated by the confirmation of William’s death. “This is not the ending we were hoping for, everyone involved in this held on to a shred of hope that we would find William alive,” said police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks. Ronald McCombs, who had helped raise William when he was in a relationship with Jane McQuain, said, “He was a great kid, the kind of kid you hope for.”
