Democrat Derrick Davis had an easy victory over competitor Day Gardner in the Tuesday race to fill a Prince George’s County Council seat. Davis, 43, is a former county school system official, and pledged that improving the schools ant taking care of the county’s senior citizens were his primary goals. Davis replaces Leslie Johnson, who was arrested in November after she and her husband pled guilty to bribery and tampering with evidence.

Voting turnout was light, with about 2,500 ballots cast in a district with more than 77,000 registered voters. The district is overwhelmingly Democratic, with over 65,000 of those voters registered as Democrats.
