Violence over prophet film infiltrates Bangladesh

0

With a 90% Muslim population, Bangladesh is seeing its share of the outrage that has left a scene of destruction and death in its wake over the creation and publicizing of a film about the Islamic prophet Mohammed. Twenty people were killed in Pakistan on Friday as a result of mobs and police clashes in cities across the nation. Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Balor has stated that he will use his own money to pay a bounty to the person who kills the man responsible for the film. The Cabinet Minister has offered a $100,000 dollar reward to whoever kills the film’s creator. Rallies in protest of the film have been peaceful as well as volatile. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned the violence but has also stated that “The same restrictions that are imposed on racism must be displayed against Islamophobia” since Islamophobia is “as dangerous as racism.”
