Showtime announced Wednesday that the upcoming season of “Weeds” will be the last for the long-running comedy. After debuting in 2005, the show, created by Jenji Kohan, picked up scores of Emmy nominations. “Weeds” is about a mother, played by Mary-Louise Parker, and her two boys who begin selling weed to support their family after her husband dies. According to Nielsen, The Lionsgate-produced show averaged around 720,000 viewers last season.
The eighth and final season of “Weeds” is scheduled to kickoff July 1.
