Patent feud between Apple and Samsung results in a $290 million settlement

A resolution was reached in the patent argument between Samsung and Apple, in which Apple claims that technology used in iPhones and iPads was copied by Samsung. A jury ruled on Thursday that Samsung should pay Apple $290 million.

Last year, Samsung was ordered to pay $1 billion because of patent infringement, but the judge claimed that there was a mistake in calculating the damages of certain products. Apple then sought around $380 million, while Samsung threw out a much lower number for features that appeared in old Apple models.

A trial will take place again in March, but on Monday, the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals did grant Apple’s request that certain Samsung products, which feature the alleged patent infringements, be removed from the market.
