The D.C. Council held a hearing on a proposal to help DC United build a new soccer stadium. The meeting began at 9:30 Thursday morning, while the men’s soccer team is expected to play against Germany at noon. Many USA soccer fans complained that it was poor planning by the council to schedule the hearing at during the same time. Mayor Vincent Gray’s administration plans to spend $150 million on the stadium. The money would go toward securing land from swaps and infrastructure improvements. Even though Mayor Gray wants the council to act quick, Council Chairman Phil Mendelson has said it will likely be up to the next mayor whether the stadium goes forward.
