An Australian tourist bungee jumping in Africa on Dec. 31 fell 365 feet when her cord snapped, falling into the Zambesi River. Erin Langworthy blacked out briefly when she hit the water, but came to and managed to swim to safety in spite of a broken collarbone and the bungee cord tying her legs together. “I felt like I’d been slapped all over,” the 22-year-old said.

Langworthy was pulled into rapids shortly after hitting the water, and she said the trailing bungee cord caught several times, forcing her to swim under and untangle it. Langworthy swam downstream, where she was treated at a clinic in Zimbabwe before being evacuated to South Africa.
