NATO to officially end Libya operation

NATO declared Monday an official end to the seven-month aerial bombing campaign that helped depose ruler Moammar Gadhafi. NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Friday, “Libyans have now liberated their country. And they have transformed the region. This is their victory.” The decision to end the campaign came after Gadhafi was killed on October 20.

Gadhafi’s relatives have stated that they plan to file a war crimes complaint against NATO. Marcel Ceccaldi, a lawyer representing the family, said, “All of the events that have taken place since February 2011 and the murder of Gadhafi, all of this means we are totally in our right to call upon the International Criminal Court.” Questions have arisen about the exact nature of Gadhafi’s death.
