Muslim group defends Nigeria’s anti-gay bill

Muslim Rights Concern, a Muslim rights organization, recently applauded Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan, for signing a bill that bans gay organizations, meetings, and marriages. The group also praised Jonathan for resisting pressure from Western countries and warns those countries to “desist from interfering in their internal affairs.”

Signed on January 7, the bill brought extensive disapproval from multiple countries, including the United States, Britain, Canada, the European Union, and the United Nations. The United States claims that this bill violates the rights of all Nigerian people and their rights to free speech and association.
