Migrant worker wins Israel’s X-Factor

Filipina caregiver Rose Fostanes won Israel’s version of the X-Factor Wednesday. Fostanes sang songs by Tina Turner and Christina Aguilera and won the competition with her rendition of “My Way” by Frank Sinatra in the finale. It is quite unusual for a migrant worker to have any form of a public profile in Israel and winning this competition is a surprise for many. Because Fostanes isn’t a resident of Israel, she will not be able to make money performing or recording in Israel unless an exception is made. She has been working in Israel for the past six years and said she has experienced firsthand prejudice and discrimination against Israeli migrants.
