India tries to save tigers from deadly virus

0

India is scuffling to protect its tiger population after several cats tested positive for a virus common among dogs but deadly among other carnivores. Within the last year, canine distemper virus has killed four tigers and several other animals across the northern and eastern regions of India.

Since the tigers are already endangered by rampant poaching and shrinking habitats, the need for a cure for this virus is crucially important. With the continuing of a growing population, more people and more dogs are coming closer to wildlife, which is another threat to the tigers. Authorities are considering a massive campaign to vaccinate dogs against the canine distemper and are also testing every tiger carcass as well.
