Kamal Ganzouri, who served as prime minister under Hosni Mubarak, regained his old job Friday and was asked to form a government of “national salvation.” The announcement comes days after Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and the cabinet handed in their resignations. Ganzouri will remain prime minister at least until January 10, after new parliamentary elections have been finalized. Parliament would have to back Ganzouri if he wanted to retain the position.

The country braced for more protests Friday, dubbed “last chance.” Protesters and police have clashed since Saturday, with protesters calling for interim military rulers to step down. The death toll stood at 41 Friday, with 33 of those from Cairo. 3,250 have been wounded.
