In Benghazi, Libya, a car bomb exploded outside a Foreign Ministry building, destroying part of the building’s façade. Col. Abdullah Al Zaydi, a spokesman for the Joint Security Task Force in Benghazi, said it was a powerful explosion, and the car was destroyed. The car was also carrying a number of other explosives. There were no serious casualties, but the blast did read one of Libya’s Central Banks, injuring a security guard.

A resident of Benghazi, Sami Berriwen reported to CNN that the explosion occurred around 7:00a.m., and pointed out that if it had happened an hour later, the street would have been crowded and more injuries could have resulted.

On the anniversary of the September 11th attacks in 2001, extra precaution is being taken at U.S. embassies, especially in the area of Benghazi.
