Local officials report that U.S.-led airstrikes against IS along the Turkish-Syrian border have assisted in pushing IS back from the city of Kobane. Turkey has ruled out a ground operation in Syria, while continuing to ask for action against controversial Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. A NATO member, Turkey is asking for assistance with the threat of IS moving across the border. U.S. Central Command has revealed that five airstrikes were carried out south of Kobane Wednesday and Thursday.
