The first place winner of the Marine Corps Marathon 10K was disqualified for not being properly registered for the event.

The French runner, whose name has not been disclosed, confessed that the bib he wore during the race belonged to his friend.

Director Rick Nealis said, “Though the MCM appreciates all participants whether from the United States or abroad, the MCM does not condone the illegal exchange of bibs.”

In light of the disqualification, the MCM announced 25-year-old Stephn Gedron of Massachusetts as the new first place runner and last year’s MCM10K winner 38-year-old Glenn Collins as the official second place runner.

This year’s event reached a record number of 7,577 finishers.
