DC Council pushes for Redskins’ name change
The ongoing controversy of the Washington Redskins’ name has come to a head amongst District of Columbia councilmembers.
The council will be meeting next week to draw up a resolution suggesting the NFL team change their name which has become a hot topic in the media due to its offensiveness to Native Americans.
The president himself said if he was the team’s owner he would “think about changing” the name, and although the council has no authority over the team, they also submitted a similar resolution in 2001.
Councilmember David Grosso suggested the moniker “Redtails” in recognition of the Tuskegee Airmen.
