Rev. Gary Hall speaks on two high court decisions

During a sermon on Sunday, Rev. Gary Hall congratulated the Supreme Court’s ruling that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as being between a man and a woman.

Hall, however, did denote a portion of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The ruling allows nine southern states to change election procedures at any time and without federal approval.

“As we exult in the joy of victories for our lesbian and gay brothers and sisters,” Hall said, “we must also weep with the pains and losses of our brothers and sisters of color.”

Rev. Hall insisted that his congregation contact Congress and revive what the court took away. The Supreme Court says that new legislation is needed to speak toward current situations.
