Requests are made for smoking ban in national parks

While the D.C. Council considers a smoking ban in city parks and nearby playgrounds, Eleanor Holmes Norton has suggested the National Park Service implement a smoking ban on all NPS parks in the district.

Norton wrote a letter to the NPS Regional Director and requested that a ban on smoking be made for all national parks, trails, and sites within the D.C. area.

A bill that would ban smoking in all city parks as well as their adjacent playgrounds is currently pending before the D.C. Council. However, due to the fact that NPS owns the majority of D.C. parks, Norton is reaching out to them.

Norton’s ban would include areas such as the National Mall, Rock Creek, Anacostia and Fort Dupont parks.
