National Mall gets new propane mowers

Greenhouse gas emissions will now be cut with the National Mall’s use of new propane fueled lawn mowers. The change stems from a new alternative fuel program.

Roy Willis, president and CEO of the Propane Education & Research Council says the new mowers are 25 percent more fuel efficient and will cut gas emissions in half.

On Monday, the council donated six propane mowers to the National Park Service to maintain areas around the National Mall. Prior to the propane mowers, the NPS was using mowers powered by diesel fuel.

Each of the six mowers will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent and will lower carbon monoxide emissions by 80 percent. The new mowers will also be less expensive for the NPS to maintain.
