The National Book Festival is opening to the public in the Washington Convention Center this weekend. The festival runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Library of Congress event will feature activities and books for readers of all ages. This year’s festival includes a poetry slam, a discussion about books that have been made into movies and live cooking demonstrations from some top chefs. he Pavilion of the States will feature each state’s literary heritage. New pavilions will focus on science, picture books and the culinary arts. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are the honorary hosts.
