Metro drivers fined over $250,000 in past two years

An investigation into fines and tickets received by Metro drivers in the past 32 months has produced numbers exceeding $250,000 for more than 2000 incidents, many of them moving violations. Caroline Lukas, a Metro spokesperson who spoke to WTOP insisted that the problem is not out of control and that most drivers employed by Metro are not repeat offenders since there are heavy repercussions and money for the fines comes out of their paychecks. For the number of Metro vehicles on the road and the miles driven every day, the numbers do not reflect a dangerous or epidemic concern.
