Metro’s Silver Line project divides Loudoun County

0

More than two dozen speakers made impassioned pleas before the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in the first hour of a meeting planned to address the extension of Metro’s Silver Line into Loudoun County. Residents and business leaders were equally represented by early speakers, emphasizing the community’s deep divide over the Silver Line project.

Some people urged the board to avoid the costly project, alluding to fiscal responsibly, while an equal number of supporters argued that it would be an economic engine that would fuel growth in the county. The first phase of the $6 billion Silver Line is under construction between Falls Church and Reston, and is scheduled for completion in late 2014. If Loudoun County supervisors approve the second phase, which would run to Dulles International Airport and into Loudoun, construction is expected to start early next year. The deadline for the deciding vote on the Metro project is July 4.
