The top Boy Scout executive in its council, which covers the District of Columbia and parts of Maryland and Virginia, is in support of the national board’s decision to accept openly gay members.

Boy Scout leaders in the Washington area will be examining the decision in the coming months to determine its impact. CEO of the National Capital Area Council Les Baron says that some members will be disappointed with the decision to accept gays.

Baron also says that the decision will allow the Boy Scouts to move forward with their programs. This is a chance for the Boy Scouts to provide creative and educational initiatives. Baron believes there will be many challenges to face in the coming months.
