Bus stop smoking ban up for approval

A final vote is set to take place regarding a smoking ban at Metro bus stops, bus shelters and bus bays.

A Metro committee has already given pre-approval of the ban, but the vote will go before a full board in a few weeks.

“There are 11,400 bus stops, shelters, bus bays that our buses serve in the region but only 400 of them are Metro owned,” says Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

Stessel says that if the ban passes transit police will give passengers “time to adjust” before they begin issuing citations.
